Trainee Project Researcher (12-Month FTC)

We're looking for a Trainee Project Researcher to join our UXO team based in Gillingham, Kent on a 12-month fixed-term contract. This is an excellent opportunity for a graduate in History, Geography or a similar discipline to begin a career in a specialist sector.

 

Working alongside our Research team, you'll learn how to produce detailed Unexploded Ordnance (UXO) Risk Assessments and other desktop studies, helping clients safely manage potential unexploded ordnance risks on development projects across the UK.

The Role

As a Trainee Researcher, you will support the delivery of high-quality UXO Risk Assessments and associated reports while developing your technical knowledge and research skills.

Key responsibilities:

  • Learning to research, write and compile UXO Risk Assessments and Site Specific Safety Instructions (SSSIs)
  • Assisting with the review and proofing of risk assessments and other desktop studies
  • Conducting historical and archive-based research to support project delivery
  • Maintaining and improving research databases, mapping systems and historical records
  • Supporting report delivery and ensuring projects are completed to agreed timescales
  • Liaising with clients to understand project requirements and provide support throughout the reporting process

About You

We're looking for an enthusiastic and organised individual who enjoys research, analysis and problem solving.

You'll ideally have:

  • A degree in History, Geography or a similar discipline
  • Strong analytical and research skills
  • Good Microsoft Office skills, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook
  • Strong teamwork and collaboration skills
  • Experience in report writing
  • An interest in GIS or cartography would be advantageous
