Principal Geo-environmental Engineer

Igne is seeking a Senior / Principal Geo-environmental Engineer to join our expanding Geotechnical Environmental Engineering team based in Warrington. This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced professional to take a lead role in delivering technically robust, commercially focused geo-environmental solutions across a diverse range of projects


You will lead the design and implementation of ground investigations, provide expert interpretation and risk assessment, and play a key role in mentoring and developing team members. You will have the opportunity to influence project strategy, client engagement and the development of high-quality deliverables that reflect our reputation for excellence.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead the design and delivery of Preliminary Risk Assessments and Intrusive Ground Investigations, including soil and rock logging, sampling and in-situ testing.
  • Interpret and report on geoenvironmental data, undertaking human health and groundwater risk assessments using industry-standard tools such as LCRM, ConSim, RBCA, SNIFFER, BP RISC and the EA Remedial Targets methodology.
  • Provide clear, commercially focused advice on contaminated land and planning matters, tailored to client and project needs.
  • Develop outline designs and specifications for contaminated land remedial works and manage detailed design of contaminated land earthworks and remediation schemes.
  • Oversee and direct investigation and remediation of mine workings, producing associated completion reports.
  • Manage projects effectively, from tender and proposal preparation through to delivery and client liaison.
  • Mentor and support junior engineers, promoting technical excellence and professional development.


Essential Criteria:

  • BSc or BEng in a relevant Geological or Environmental discipline (MSc desirable).
  • Proven track record in project management, client development and technical delivery.
  • Extensive experience preparing contaminated land assessment reports in line with current guidance.
  • Strong understanding of contaminated land legislation and the UK planning regime.
  • Excellent organisational, communication and leadership skills.
  • Full UK driving licence (UK travel required)


Desirable:

Geotechnical Engineer

Igne is looking to appoint a Geotechnical Engineer to join our successful Geoenvironmental Division based in Walsall. This is a full time position and will involve travel across the UK to undertake site work. A full UK driving license is essential to be considered for the role.

 

This varied role involves undertaking environmental due diligence reviews, various aspects of ground engineering including preliminary risk assessments, ground investigations, geotechnical assessments, ground contamination appraisals, remedial options appraisals, remediation strategies and associated validation works.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Preparation of preliminary risk assessment reports
  • Participate in ground investigation procurement, supervision and management
  • Undertaking ground investigation including trial pitting, soil and water sampling, gas monitoring and logging of soils and rock cores to relevant British Standards and Eurocodes
  • Preparation of laboratory testing schedules
  • Liaising with internal and external clients, contractors and other interested stakeholders
  • Provide interpretation of soil and rock stratigraphy including for the purposes of foundation, earthworks and pavement design. Interpretation of underlying strata for mine entries/workings, mineral stability, subsidence investigations and remediation.
  • Participate in more specialised geological projects including but not limited to determination of quarry high wall and geological slopes.

 

What We Are Looking For:

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in a related subject (Geotechnical Engineering, Geology/Hydrogeology, Environmental Science or related discipline)
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills and reporting abilities
  • Ability to work as part of a team
  • Full driving license (travel is required)
  • Desirable (but not essential)
  • Knowledge and practical experience of ground investigation and laboratory testing techniques, including logging of soil and rock core samples to relevant British Standards and Eurocodes
